NAB 2008 photo gallery is up
The NAB photo gallery is up at http://www.360replays.com/gallery/ - it’s kinda brief this year, probably a good sign we’ve been very busy. Too busy to take photos apparently ![]()
NAB 2008 - Day 4
Well it’s day 4 and the show floor was thinning out making it a lot easier to get around and talk to companies I hadn’t been able to stop by and see.. day 4 is usually reserved for cramming in everything I kept putting off all week!
Immersive Media had some new stuff going on… they now have a Flash based player for their panoramic video (instead of the old shockwave video) and it looks pretty nice. I didn’t get to stop by and see Orad like I had planned, but I did get a preview of their 3D replay system for soccer and they’ve got some new improvements, one of the biggest being HD.
Panasonic has a new PTZ out which looks cool - big assed lens on it which is nice to see. Performance was good all around but I’ll wait until I can get my hands on one to determine how good the protocol is. Anyways, gotta log off so we can go get some poker and drinking in - lates.

It’s amazing how tiring it is to stuff yourself with buffet food and drink endless quantities of alcohol (oh I know, you sympathize), we managed to survive another day at NAB and get some excellent progress on many of the projects we are working on.
I didn’t really get to see a lot of the booth’s today, so I can’t really elaborate on new technologies that were exciting to see. Sony’s new EX-1HDV camera was pretty cool. The XDCAM features a 14x Fujinon lens (integrated w/autofocus), 3 1/2″ CMOS sensors which have really nice low-light capabilities, full 1080p AND 720p!!!, and SDI out. I’m not sure if I like it more than my JVC HD250 - but it’s darn close. Picture quality is superb. And best of all I’ll have a few in my hands next week!
One more day to go and I’ll be spending it mostly near the likes of Microsoft and a few other select booths, hopefully I’ll see some new stuff to talk about tomorrow.

Feet…. so…. tired…. we’ve taken it easy this year at NAB and actually left the show early after a busy day of meetings and booth browsing. One interesting find was the showing of NHK’s Ultra-rez HD (something like HD16k!!) which was shown on 4 x HD4k monitors. You could read football jersey’s clearly from a full wide shot! It was very impressive, especially the city scape shots from a helicopter. Very detailed.
We have finally negotiated the mechanical requirements for our HD pan/tilt’s and they look really good. We hope to have it in our hands in about 2 weeks, and I really look forward to playing with them. OMG toyz!

There really isn’t much to write about today as it was mostly meetings with some vendors and associates, which is all super secret and junk… I walked the South Upper today and honestly didn’t see a whole lot that was new this year, a lot of the same vendors selling the same stuff. I did however try out Benihana restaraunt at the Hilton - gotta say I wish I had a habachi grill in my kitchen, good food and highly entertaining.

We’re gearing up for the upcoming NAB show in Vegas, an annual event we usually attend. Plans for a booth this year unfortunately fell through with the recent loss of NMT, however we’ll still be keeping ourselves busy down there with lots going on. If anyone wants to get together with the 360 crew for some drinks or official business, just give us a shout, we’re always willing to meet people even to just hang out. You’ll probably catch us after each show at the Canadian suite for beers.
For those interested, here’s a picture gallery from last year: NAB 2007 Photo Gallery
1 commentRealtime support
Recently added to the system was realtime playback support. The video replays can now be controlled live using a Xbox360 joystick controller and will output in realtime in the same manner a standard slow-mo box or DVR would perform. With the cool exception being that you can also choose the camera angle during playback
Rewind performance isn’t as smooth as playback yet, but I’ll be adding more optimizations to it in the near future. It’s very simple to operate and we hope to add a customized hardware controller later on.
1 commentOMG WTF BBQ!
Hey everyone, I’ve finally welcomed myself to the world of blogging. Wordpress was simple to install, I’ll do my best to make it look pretty right away.
